The problem
Teams needed the flexibility of Airtable but couldn't accept the vendor lock-in, unpredictable pricing, or the compliance risk of shipping business-critical data to a black-box SaaS. They wanted a no-code database they could self-host, extend, and audit.
Approach
- Built a schema-on-write engine on PostgreSQL so every table stays fully queryable, no proprietary storage layer.
- Shipped grid, kanban, gallery, calendar, timeline, and form views on a shared React data model with sub-second view switching.
- Designed a plugin API so teams can add fields, views, and integrations without forking the core.
- Packaged one-command Docker, Helm, and AWS deploys so any team can self-host in under 10 minutes.
Results
- Adopted by regulated teams (finance, healthcare, gov) that previously couldn't use hosted no-code tools.
- Cut spreadsheet-to-app build time from weeks to hours for internal ops teams.
- Extensible plugin surface drove a healthy ecosystem of external contributors.
